VMware ESXi is the hypervisor created by VMware that allows you to virtualize machines for free.
The trial version is fully functional for 60 days and the free version can be used without time limit with limited features.

Important : since February 2024, following the acquisition of VMware by Broadcom, the free version of VMware ESXi no longer exists.
However, the 60-day trial version still exists for VMware ESXi.
Source : End Of General Availability of the Free vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi 7.x and 8.x) (2107518).

Then, you are free to buy a VMware vSphere license to create a complete and flexible virtual infrastructure if you combine several VMware ESXi hypervisors which can be managed centrally via VMware vCenter Server (VCSA).

Thanks to this 1st course about VMware ESXi, you will learn to:

  • Install this VMware ESXi hypervisor (on local storage, on a USB key or from a USB key).
  • Including with a network card not supported by default (practical for labs / models).
  • configure basic VMware ESXi settings.
  • manage your virtual machines: transfer files from the host PC to and from your VMs, create snapshots, clone virtual machines without VMware vCenter Server (which is chargeable), use the "VMRC" console (VMware Remote Console), ...
  • automatically start a virtual machine on its BIOS, as well as plug a USB key into a VM.
  • manage a few special cases: use virtualization-based security (VBS) with Windows 10 as guest OS, use a USB 3.0 controller with Windows 7 as guest OS, ...
  • manage the security of your VMware ESXi hypervisor: manage roles, users, permissions, firewall, ...
  • maintain your VMware ESXi hypervisor and update it, as well as the virtual hardware of your virtual machines.
