Remote Desktop Services (RDS) or formerly Terminal Server services (TSE) can provide :

  • session-based (Terminal Server) desktops or applications hosted on one or more Windows Server servers
  • desktops or applications based on virtual machines (VDI) whose OS is very often a client version of Windows

When you deploy Remote Desktop Services (RDS), you have the choice between : publishing desktops or applications (called RemoteApp).

In business, the use of RDS is very frequent, because RDS :

  • allows you to secures access to sensitive corporate resources. Since the applications don't run on each employee's computer, but on a server that has been configured and secured by the system administrator
  • provides secure access to remote desktops (from the outside) using the RDS gateway (optional)
  • allows access to desktops and/or applications from any device : computer, tablets and smartphones, using the appropriate program or mobile application
  • speed up the deployment of applications, because they are only installed once per server for all users (whom you authorize). In addition, compatibility problems are therefore less frequent, since all the servers must be identical per collection.
  • is also used by desktop virtualization solutions like Citrix XenDesktop, for example
  • and more
