Debian is an operating system with only free software and widely used for servers running Linux.

Debian is especially compatible with 32 and 64-bit processors and is faster than Ubuntu, for example.
In fact, Ubuntu is based on Debian and offers more program than Debian.
On Debian, you install only what you need.

To install Debian, there are several possibilities :

  • Download CDs or DVDs for an installation without the Internet. As reported on the Debian website, only the first disc (CD or DVD) is required for the installation of Debian. Others are used for the installation of packages available for Debian.
  • Download the "netinst" CD which will perform an installation by downloading the necessary files during installation.
