As you may have already seen in our "Broadcom MegaRAID 9560-8i - Unboxing, assembly and connections" tutorial, Broadcom doesn't offer a cable with SATA connectors although SATA hard drives are still supported by your MegaRAID controller.
So we contacted Broadcom support, then we found another reliable and cheaper solution (if you don't live in the United States).
As you will have understood, this is possible, but you will have to use a cable created by a third party (since there is no official cable for this specific case at the moment).
Since we couldn't find a cable with SATA connectors for our Broadcom MegaRAID 9560-8i controller, we contacted Broadcom Support.
As you can see in the image below, Broadcom tells you that you can connect SAS or SATA drives with the official cable "05-60006-00".
In fact, the U.3 connector can be plugged into your SATA hard drives without any problem.
Thanks to the pins located in the center of the U.3 connector, the RAID controller can know if it is a SAS disk (because all the pins make contact) or a SATA disk (because the pins in the center will not make contact).
The other cable is not currently available from Broadcom, but many customers use the one provided by PC PitStop (as you can check in the email below).
On the PC PitStop website (which we didn't know about), you can buy the "1m SFF-8654 to 8 x SATA cable without sideband" cable for around $80 (delivery costs NOT included).
If you place it in the basket and calculate the delivery costs for France, you will have to add around $70 (for the cheapest delivery).
Which doubles the price to pay.
For Belgium, delivery costs on this site are even higher.
Which generates a price of $163.42 for a cable normally costing $79.99 on this site.
You therefore quickly understand why purchasing this cable on this site was not an option for us.
If you live in the US, maybe it's cheaper. To be checked.
Having already used 2 different RAID controllers created by PMC Sierra, then by Microsemi (which bought PMC Sierra in 2016) for several years, we know that this brand is reliable.
So we purchased the necessary cable from Microchip.
To find the reference of the Microchip cable to purchase, simply go to the "Adaptec® Cables and Accessories" page.
In our case, our "Broadcom MegaRAID 9560-8i" controller has a "x8 SFF-8654" connector and we want to connect our SATA hard drives with regular SATA connectors.
For this, we very quickly find the suitable cable "ACK-I-SlimSASx8-8SATAx1-0.8M" which therefore has:
As you can see, the reference for this cable at Microchip (Order Number) is "2305800-R".
As you can see, Broadcom MegaRAID 95xx controllers support cables whose connector for the RAID controller is "SFF-8654 (SlimSAS)".

To order an official cable from Microchip, simply click on the "Order Now" link at the top right.
You will arrive at Microchip Direct (in other words: the official Microchip web shop).
To purchase a product from Microchip Direct, indicate the reference (Order Number) retrieved previously.
In our case, the reference "2305800-R" which corresponds to the cable "ACK-I-SlimSASx8-8SATAx1-0.8M".
As you can see, the official cable provided by Microchip costs only €47.49 (not including shipping costs).
Enter "1" for Quantity and click: Add to Cart.
In our case, the package will be sent to Belgium.
Click "Proceed to Secure Checkout" and log in or create a free account with Microchip Direct.
Note: Microchip Direct is accessible to individuals and professionals.
In our case, the delivery costs currently amount to only €11.02 (which is much less than the third-party site cited by Broadcom support).
And as a reminder, Microchip is very well known and reliable.
Make the payment using the payment method of your choice (in our case PayPal).
A summary of the order appears with a total price of €70.80.
Warning : it is possible that customs fees will be requested by the carrier in a few days (although we have had this surprise only once in 4 orders with Microchip Direct).
