2. Configure the VCSA virtual machine

Now that the VCSA virtual machine has been deployed, you need to configure it by accessing the "http://vcsa.informatiweb.lan/" address displayed on its console (see image above).

On the "Getting Started - vCenter Server Appliance with an Embedded Platform Services Controller (PSC)" page that appears, click: Configure.

Provide the password for the "root" account previously defined in the VMware Workstation Pro import wizard and click: Connect.

The "Install – Step 2: Configure vCenter Server Appliance with an Embedded Platform Services Controller" wizard appears.
Click Next.

If you have filled in all possible information in the VMware Workstation Pro import wizard displayed when importing the VCSA virtual machine, all fields will already be pre-populated.

If you would like information about this form, refer to the "Deploy the VMware VCSA (vCenter Server Appliance) virtual machine" step in our tutorial on deploying VCSA on VMware ESXi.

If you have not yet deployed a vCenter Server in your case, you will need to choose: Create a new SSO domain.

Then, specify:

  • Single Sign-On domain name: a fictitious domain name that you will use as your domain under vCenter Server.
    Default: vsphere.local.
  • Single Sign-On user name: administrator. Which will correspond by default to the user "administrator@vsphere.local" under VMware vCenter Server and which will allow you to manage the inventory (folders, hosts, VMs, ...) of this server.
  • Single Sign-On password: the password to set for this user "administrator@vsphere.local".
  • Confirm password: same.

Uncheck the "Join the VMware's Customer Improvement Program (CEIP)" box if you do not want to participate.

A summary of the network configuration of your VCSA appliance appears.
Click Finish.

Click OK to begin the VCSA installation process.

Warning : this may take time depending on the performance of your computer.

An "Install – Step 2: The installation of this appliance is in progress" box appears.
Wait while VCSA installs.

Once the installation of the VCSA appliance is complete, click on the link displayed by the installer: https://vcsa.informatiweb.lan:443

If you connect to port 5480 of your VCSA appliance, you will have access to a "VMware Appliance Management" login page.

If you connect to port 443 (HTTPS) of your VCSA device, you will arrive at this page where you will have the choice between the new HTML5 client and the old Flash-based "FLEX" web client.
Click: Launch vSphere Client (HTML5).

Warning : the old FLEX client is deprecated and is no longer usable since it is no longer possible to use the Adobe Flash plug-in with recent web browsers.

Once you click the blue "Launch vSphere Client (HTML5)" button, you will land on a "VMware vSphere" login page where you can log in as: administrator@vsphere.local (default).

Once logged in, you will have access to your VMware vCenter Server (VCSA) inventory which is currently empty.
