VMware Workstation Player is a simplified version of VMware Workstation Pro which is available for free to individuals for personal use at home and not for commercial use.
Although the features of VMware Workstation Player is limited compared to the Pro version, you will still benefit of the power of VMware virtualization solutions.
Upgrade to VMware Workstation Pro for free
Since VMware was acquired by Broadcom, VMware Workstation Pro has become free for personal use.
So, VMware Workstation Player is no longer available as a standalone download, although it is still included in the VMware Workstation Pro installation.
So if you are an individual, you can simply download VMware Workstation Pro for free.
VMware Workstation Player is therefore suitable for students or individuals who have a limited need for virtualization since they will be able to use a professional virtualization solution for free.
Note that professionals can also use VMware Workstation Player if they wish, but a paid license is required for the commercial use of this product.
