DirectAccess is a complex technology allowing employees of a company to access its intranet transparently, even when they are outside of it (thanks to a laptop, for example).
Indeed, once the computers linked to an Active Directory domain controller and configured to use DirectAccess, they will connect normally if they are physically in the company or via a secure connection (via a VPN tunnel) if they are outside of it.
The difference lies mainly in the fact that system administrators will also be able to manage these computers through group policies (GPO), even if the PCs leave the company physically. This is not the case with a simple VPN tunnel.
In addition, DirectAccess "manage out" mode also allows access to these computers from the internal company network, as if the remote PCs were physically there.
